What is labiaplasty?

Labiaplasty is a cosmetic surgery procedure designed to reduce the size of the labia minora - the inner “lips” of the female genitalia. The same procedure can address the enlargement of the outer vaginal lips, known as the labia majora. Some women naturally have longer labia; childbirth, significant weight loss, and aging can cause the tissues of the labia to become stretched out over time.

Elongated labia can cause pain and irritation when wearing tight clothes or during activities such as cycling and other types of exercise. It may also cause embarrassment and discomfort during intercourse.

What is involved in labiaplasty surgery?

The team at Orange Blossom Aesthetics usually performs labiaplasty under general anesthetic in a surgical environment. Some patients are candidates to perform this procedure under local anesthesia in an office setting. To remove excess labial tissue, your provider makes small incisions on either side of the labia; these incisions will be nearly invisible once they’ve healed. Once the procedure is complete, she’ll use ultra-fine sutures to close the incision.

You’ll need to keep the area bandaged for a few days following your surgery, and you may need to use a special cushion to keep you comfortable when sitting. You should expect some swelling for several days after your procedure, but as this subsides, you’ll be able to see the shapely new contours of the labial area. You can expect to resume normal activities, including intercourse, in about two to three weeks.
