What is Emsella?

Emsella

What is Emsella?

It is a non-invasive FDA approved device that is used to treat urinary incontinence. Emsella uses high intensity focused electromagnetic waves that stimulates a woman’s pelvis floor.

What does Emsella treat?

Emsella helps treat women with urinary incontinence which unfortunately impacts 200 million women worldwide. Urinary incontinence can be caused by pregnancy, childbirth, menopause, obesity, and aging.

What is Urinary Incontinence?

Urinary incontinence is defined as the involuntary leakage of urine. This might be a result of weak pelvic floor muscles since pelvic floor muscles play an important role in supporting pelvic organs and controlling continence.

There are four different types of urinary incontinence:

• Stress incontinence: is when there is exerted pressure on the bladder causing leakage. This can be caused by coughing, laughing, sneezing, or exercising.

• Urge: is the sudden, intense urge to urinate frequently.

• Mixed incontinence: is a combination of both stress and urge incontinence

• Overflow incontinence: is when your bladder doesn’t fully empty, you can experience frequent or constant dribbling of urine.

How does this help?

Our pelvic floor consists of over 300 muscles. The magnets focus its energy on the pelvic floor and cause the pelvic floor muscles to contract. This results in our pelvic floor muscles to strengthen strong enough so you can contract and control the accidents of when urine leaks out when you cough, sneeze, or jump. Emsella also help the nerves become less over active. This can be beneficial for patients who have the urge to use the bathroom frequently or waking up in the middle of the night to urinate.

What is the process and how does it feel?

The treatment involves sitting fully dressed on the Emsella chair (also known as the Kegel throne) for 30 minutes. The chair emits electromagnetic energy, which causes you to involuntarily contract your pelvic floor muscles 11,000 times in a single session. When the treatment starts you will feel slight tingling and vibrations in your pelvic floor muscles that will then turn into full contractions.

How many times do I need to do this?

Our protocol recommends 6 sessions, 2 treatments per week for 3 weeks and maintenance sessions every 3-4 months.

When do I start noticing changes?

Some patients can notice changes in their first session, with improvements over time.

Is there any downtime?

No, there is no downtime. You can go out in public, work out at the gym, and go about your day!

Who should avoid this treatment?

This treatment is not recommended for women who are: pregnant or breastfeeding, have metal implants, have current or have had a history of heart conditions or cancer. Always talk with your medical professional before beginning any treatment. Discuss your medical history, allergies, and any conditions of concern before starting. This helps your doctor determine if this is a safe option for you to use.
