SkinPen Microneedling

SkinPen Microneedling 2024

Is It Right for You?

As we age, we see an inevitable decline in the elasticity, hydration, strength, and smoothness of our skin. This is because our body is slowing down its production of collagen, hyaluronic acid, and elastin.

Losing Skin Strength

Collagen is primarily responsible for the strength of our skin, while elastin keeps skin bouncy and flexible and hyaluronic acid keeps everything well-hydrated. When the production of these three elements declines, we experience dry skin that starts to sag and fall into lines and wrinkles as the foundation below it in the dermis declines. Without elastin, it can’t bounce back from movement the way it once did.

What is the result? We get lines and wrinkles, our skin tends to sag, and we develop issues with texture and smoothness that we can’t seem to moisturize or exfoliate away. If you’re starting to notice the first signs of aging, like fine lines and larger pores, it’s a great time to consider Microneedling.

Dealing With Acne

For some of us, our skin issues aren’t all about the production of collagen. The problem is acne, and it’s all down to the way our body tries to so hard to protect itself.

When we have a bad outbreak of acne, our skin immediately responds to close the wounds as fast as possible. For the body, restoring the skin as an impermeable barrier against outside infection is much more important than aesthetics, so the body prioritizes speed over beauty as it repairs the skin. This can leave us with acne scars that no cream or skincare routine can erase: but Microneedling can help.

Rebooting the System

There are plenty of treatments out there that can temporarily cover up the signs of aging, but what about a treatment that actually gets your body to work repairing and strengthening skin for itself? In other words, what if there was a way to reboot the production system and send more collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid to your skin once again? That’s precisely what microneedling is all about.

How Microneedling Works

The effects of aging don’t register as a problem with our bodies. That’s why our bodies don’t send collagen to fix issues like sagging skin or wrinkles. As we get a bit older, our body will only produce more of these elements if it senses an injury.

Microneedling is a way of tricking your body into doing this. The SkinPen device contains microneedles that make tiny, superficial injuries to the top layer of the skin, triggering the production of collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid. And unlike the more aggressive injuries of acne outbreaks, this rebooted skin production is smooth and gentle. Once the collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid have done their work, you can expect:

Smoother skin
Smaller pores
Reduction in scars
More even pigmentation
Erasure of fine lines
Minimized deeper lines

About the SkinPen

There are many microneedling devices out there, but at the Orange Blossom Women’s Group, we use the SkinPen because it’s the gold standard for safe, effective microneedling. It’s the first device ever to be cleared by the FDA, and it has only gotten better with time. It’s so safe that it’s even used routinely in hospital settings to treat burn scars.

This handheld device is equipped with 14 tiny needles, and it’s easy to adjust the depth of these needles so we can use the device anywhere on the face safely. The SkinPen is also safe for use on all skin types, unlike many other facial treatments that are only suitable for people of a certain type of skin.

SkinPen Microneedling Treatment

Treatment begins with a consultation where we look at your skin, discuss your skincare habits and medical history, and ensure this is the right choice for you. Once our medical experts have given it the go-ahead, you’re ready to start! We apply a cooling gel first so you won’t feel any discomfort during the process.

The whole treatment takes no more than a half-hour, and many people even find it genuinely relaxing. Our expert professionals know just how to safely use the SkinPen so that all your target areas are treated to the right depth.

After Treatment

Once your treatment is over, you’re free to go about your day. For the next 24 hours, you’ll have some special healing and moisturizing creams to baby your skin with, and, as always, it’s best to protect your skin with an SPF any time you’re exposed to the sun.

Results to Expect

Because you’re rebooting your body’s own healing powers, it will take a little while for new skin production to make visible changes. You’ll be able to see real change in less than 30 days, but the best results will come flooding in two to three months later. Some people will get the results they want with just one session while some have as many as three. We’ll help you figure out what’s right for you.
